Nearly 67 million adults suffer from high blood pressure and about 36 million of them don’t have it under control, according to a report released Tuesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. High blood pressure statistics are not reported to local health departments, but according to the 2009 California Health Interview Survey, 26.7 percent of Merced-area residents indicated they had been diagnosed with hypertension by a physician.
