With six weeks to go in its first open enrollment period, Covered California has exceeded its most optimistic enrollment estimate, according to data released by the health exchange Wednesday.

Peter Lee, Covered California’s executive director, said 828,638 people have picked health plans through the second week of February. Initial estimates were that between 500,000 and 700,000 Californians would sign up by March 31.
