Health care plan may hinge on public opinion

If the Senate passes as expected the $871 billion health care overhaul later this week, the real drama will unfold early next year when conferees from both houses try to craft compromise legislation. The House of Representatives passed its own overhaul plan last month. One threat to eventual passage is the public’s view of the legislation, said Paul Ginsburg, president of the Center for Studying Health System Change, a nonpartisan Washington research group.
