Head of Mental Health Institute Leaving for Google Life Sciences
The New York Times

Dr. Thomas R. Insel, director of the National Institute of Mental Health, announced on Tuesday that he plans to step down in November, ending his 13-year tenure at the helm of the world’s leading funder of behavioral health research to join Google Life Sciences.

“I chose this moment because I wanted to leave at a high point,” he wrote in a prepared statement. “For the first time in many years we have a complete and completely outstanding leadership team at N.I.M.H., we have excellent engagement from the advocacy community, we have unprecedented support from Congress, and we have an inspiring strategic plan.”
