Giant hospital company nabs 800-doctor South Bay medical group

Nashville-based HCA, one of the nation’s largest hospital companies, has acquired the 800-doctor Santa Clara County Independent Practice Association, better known as SCCIPA, and its management company. The hospital giant acquired Pacific Partners Management Services Inc., which manages SCCIPA. Technically under California law a company that isn’t owned by doctors can’t own a medical group.
