Fresno Alzheimer’s caregivers face end of state assistance

A program in Fresno that helps family members care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease could shut down next month unless state funding is restored.

California would eliminate all 11 Caregiver Resource Programs statewide on June 30, including the Valley Caregiver Resource Center in Fresno.

Most people with Alzheimer’s are cared for by family members, and the stress on caregivers — many of whom are adult children or elderly spouses — is crushing, said Valley center executive director Michelle Mastro.
