Fort Bragg hospital board considers parcel tax

The Mendocino Coast’s only hospital plans to seek the public’s assistance as it continues to ride a financial roller coaster following its emergence from bankruptcy earlier this year.

Like many small, rural hospitals across the country, the Mendocino Coast District Hospital, which serves about 23,000 coastal residents, long has struggled to make ends meet.

In the past five years, 59 rural hospitals have closed across the United States, according to the University of North Carolina’s Rural Health Research Program.
