Fewer employers plan to drop coverage: survey

Coming requirements of the federal healthcare law will lead 6% of employers to drop insurance coverage, according to a recent business group survey (PDF). However, that is far fewer than the group’s previous survey found.

The rate of employers expecting to drop their insurance coverage and pay the law’s penalty was 22% of respondents in the 2010 survey of the Midwest Business Group on Health.

The not-for-profit organization of more than 100 self-insured private and public employers earlier this year surveyed 437 businesses ranging from under 50 employees to those with more than 50,000.
