FDA would see 23% funding increase under budget plan

President Barack Obama has asked Congress to approve $4 billion to fund the Food and Drug Administration during fiscal 2011. If approved, the budget released today would provide a $747 million—or 23%—increase in funding for the agency over the 2010 fiscal period. “This budget represents a very real step forward,” said FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg during a telephone news briefing.
