President Barack Obama will leave office with one of the most accomplished health care records in history. The Affordable Care Act, while still a work in progress, is responsible for expanding coverage to an estimated 20 million Americans who didn’t have it before the law’s passage. Politics aside, it’s a once-in-a-generation achievement. Not only can Americans be proud about the progress made toward universal health care, in this election year, Democrats can take all of the credit. No, the law does not go as far as it could have or should have, but the Democrats have made real progress, despite the extraordinary resistance of virtually every Republican elected official.
