Do the math on high-deductible plans
San Diego Union-Tribune

Health insurance deductibles nationwide have been climbing for years, especially among employer-sponsored plans.

The average annual deductible in the U.S. this year is $1,318, according to a survey by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. The figure for some plans has breached the $4,000, $5,000 or even $6,000 mark.

Generally, premiums have shown lower increases when compared to deductibles. So this might be the key question you will face during this year’s open-enrollment period: Should you pick a health plan with a higher premium but lower deductible, or vice versa?
