Covered California to respond to Obama on canceled policies

Covered California’s board of directors is expected to say Thursday afternoon whether it will follow President Barack Obama’s request and take steps to allow canceled individual insurance plans to be extended into 2014. The California health exchange has signed contracts with many of the state’s leading health plans — including Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield of California, Anthem Blue Cross and Health Net of California — that require the plans to terminate individual and family coverage at year-end that doesn’t meet the Affordable Care Act’s standards for comprehensive coverage.
