Covered California falls short in verifying data

A federal watchdog says California’s new health insurance marketplace has often failed to verify important personal information and discrepancies in the applications it receives.

The U.S. Health and Human Services inspector general reported Tuesday that Covered California also failed to verify people’s citizenship and legal residence, and often made mistakes when entering information from paper applications. The findings suggest the state does not always resolve inconsistencies in people’s applications.
