Covered California brings pitch to Indio
The Desert Sun

Phone lines are now open for people with questions about the state-run health insurance exchange, and its top official said Monday those phones have been busy.

Peter Lee, the executive director for Covered California, said the exchange has added 500 more call center employees for this third year of open enrollment, which started Sunday and runs through the end of January.

Speaking outside JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio as part of a 38-stop bus tour, Lee said he didn’t yet have hard numbers from the first two days of the enrollment window, but he emphasized that more phone workers and more storefront offices are being used this year to reach the millions of Californians still without health insurance.
