Costs expected to rise with practice acquisitions, survey finds
Modern Physician

Hospital employment of physicians and acquisition of physician practices could be factors in increasing the costs of healthcare, according to nearly one-third of the respondents in an online membership poll of American College of Physician Executives members.

The range of comments reflects the ongoing debates over hospital facility costs, fee-for-service payment and generational shifts among doctors.

Of the 468 respondents, 31.8% said costs go up when a group or practice is acquired by a hospital or health system; 16% said costs stay mostly the same; and only 4.7% said costs go down.
