CMS sees states’ Medicaid decisions taking ’several months,’ official says

The CMS expects many states will take “several months” more to decide whether to expand their Medicaid programs, according to a senior HHS official. Cindy Mann, director of the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services at the CMS, told a Washington health policy gathering that she expects states to use the time to weigh whether to undertake an expansion of their Medicaid programs’ eligibility to all residents with incomes of up to 133% of the federal poverty level—plus a 5 percentage point leeway to 138% of the federal poverty level.
