Cataracts? Knee surgery? Prices depend.

The cost for various medical procedures may vary significantly from city to city and state to state, according to a report published in Health Affairs.

Using data from the Health Care Cost Institute, four Health Affairs researchers analyzed costs of medical procedures to see how much insurers were billed. The variance in prices was true for procedures from chickenpox vaccines to colonoscopies.

How much you’ll pay for medical care varies state by state. California is near the national average, but two neighboring states, Nevada and Arizona, are slightly cheaper, with price ratios of .91 and .82 respectively.
