More than 416,000 Californians signed up for health care through the state’s insurance exchange in March, making it the single largest enrollment period since it opened six months ago, officials announced Thursday.

Preliminary data show that more than 1.2 million people enrolled into a health plan from Oct. 1 through March 31 through Covered California, the state’s health plan exchange. Covered California executive director Peter Lee said enrollment became more diverse last month, with more Latino participants, although not as many as projected.
