State health insurance exchange officials Tuesday said they’re on track to reach their goal of signing up at least 500,000 new enrollees by Feb. 15, the deadline for the second open-enrollment period under the nation’s health care law.

“We’re quite confident we will hit” the target, Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee said during a news conference. As of Sunday, Lee said, 217,146 more Californians had signed up for a private health care plan under the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, since Year Two enrollment kicked off on Nov. 15.
