Bill would force docs on probation to tell patients

A bill recently introduced by a state senator from San Mateo seeks to require that doctors notify their patients if they are on probation for serious infractions.

Written by Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, Senate Bill 1033 would mandate that physicians on probation for certain violations — including gross negligence, repeated negligent acts with multiple patients, repeated and excessive prescribing of controlled substances, and drug or alcohol abuse — alert their patients to such discipline before each office visit.
