Bill would allow anesthesia assistants to practice in California
Sacramento Business Journal

There’s legislation in the works to establish a new kind of medical practice in California: anesthesiologist assistant.

This kind of worker can practice in 17 states and the District of Columbia, but not California. Assembly Bill 890 by Democratic Assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas from Culver City would change that. Anesthesiologist assistants work under direct supervision of an anesthesiologist, performing support functions that don’t require the skills of a doctor, while ensuring doctors are there if there’s an emergency.
