Antibiotic-resistant bacteria give urgent warning

The spread of a totally antibiotic-resistant superbug to the United States represents an urgent public health concern. Unchallenged, resistant bacteria could kill hundreds of millions of people throughout the nation and world. At the same time, it’s the latest in a lengthy series of warnings that what we see as the normal state of affairs — freedom from dangerous infections — is highly unnatural. Deadly infectious diseases are natural. “The notion that it is a food pyramid (with humanity at the top) is an illusion. It is a food cycle. We have our common predators, and one of our biggest predators is bacteria.”
