San Francisco Business Times

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California, rivals who are among the state’s largest health plans, have agreed to jointly invest $80 million in a statewide health information exchange or HIE that they say will attract some of California’s largest hospitals, medical groups and health care systems. The new nonprofit data exchange’s formal name is the California Integrated Data Exchange, the two companies said Tuesday morning, but will be nicknamed Cal Index.
