After lawsuits nixed, California providers look to other ways to raise Medicaid rates

The U.S. Supreme Court shut the door Tuesday on lawsuits over low Medicaid rates, but that’s not the end of the story. California providers have rate hike bills pending in the state Legislature — and are looking at other options if that doesn’t work. “We absolutely still believe the rates the state pays for Medi-Cal are not sustainable,” said Jan Emerson-Shea, a spokeswoman for the California Hospital Association.
