3-D mammography ups ante in medical arms race

Radiological Associates of Sacramento is the first local provider to offer three-dimensional mammograms, believed to do a better job of finding tumors in dense tissue. Local health systems that compete with the independent radiology group say they have the necessary equipment but aren’t paying the $150,000 to $200,000 required to upgrade to 3-D scans — yet.
