2010 Consent Manual includes CD
Forms and posters in manual available electronically

CHA’s newly updated Consent Manual — A Reference for Consent and Related Health Care Law contains 24 chapters, several quick reference guides, and more than 100 forms (many in Spanish). All forms and appendixes are now available electronically (PDF) on a free CD included with the 2010 Consent Manual.

This nearly 1,000-page manual is the most comprehensive and acclaimed resource available to hospitals on patient consent for medical treatment and related health care law. The manual begins with basic principles of consent and moves to specific patient types (including minors) and situations, such as mental health treatment, advance health care directives and more.

Broader consent issues, including release of information, mandatory reporting requirements and refusal of treatment, also are addressed. This year’s 37th edition was updated by Lois J. Richardson, Esq., CHA vice president, legal publications and education, to reflect all changes in state and federal consent law through January 2010.

As a membership service, CHA has distributed one complimentary copy to each member hospital and health system CEO. A memorandum of notable changes will be included with the manual. To order extra manuals, visit the CHA website at
