Steinberg pushes bill to require insurance coverage for autism

In the final days of the legislative session, Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg is pushing a bill that would require health insurance plans to cover treatment for autism.

It’s a last-minute attempt to solve what the Sacramento Democrat sees as a major problem with health care for autistic children: Many insurance plans don’t cover a common form of autism therapy known as behavioral health treatment or applied behavioral analysis.
