South Bay hospitals becoming healthier for patients

Preventable infections have been dramatically reduced at hospitals around the state and in the South Bay as more attention is focused on patient safety.

Several South Bay facilities are taking part in a three-year effort called Patient Safety First that began last year. Data from the first year of the program, 2010, shows infections have been reduced in the Southern California region by as much as 41 percent over 2009.
