Hospitals’ certification to improve local stroke care
Bakersfield Californian

Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield’s new certification as a stroke center increases the options for patients in Kern County, and could accelerate treatment during the most critical time window.

Last week, the county’s Emergency Medical Services Department added Mercy and Mercy Southwest hospitals to the list of places where paramedics send stroke patients.

“This gives the community better coverage for stroke care,” said Ross Elliott, the EMS director. “There’s a better chance the patient is going to get the care they need rapidly.”
