County’s Medicare recipients save $5.3 million in drug costs

More than 10,240 seniors and disabled people in San Diego County have gotten prescription drug discounts so far this year through a program aimed at narrowing the Medicare Part D “donut hole” coverage gap.

The discounts totalled more than $5.3 million, or an average of $520 per recipient.

Nationwide, nearly 1.3 million Medicare recipients have gotten $660 million in discounts, according to the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
