Volunteers and the Acute Care Inpatient Experience
BJ Bartleson, RN, MS, NEA-BC, Vice President Nursing & Clinical Services, California Hospital Association, Richard Cinfio, Director of Security & Environmental Services & Daman Mott, RN, MSN, Nursing Director, NorthBay Healthcare Corporation

Participants will hear about work done at American Hospital Association on reconfiguring care at the bedside and workforce roles in a redesigned primary care model. Attendees will also hear the results of CHA’s Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) volunteer survey describing the “state of the state” of the acute care volunteer experience in California. Hear innovative stories from an acute care hospital emergency department and how volunteers are assisting with patient throughput goals outlined in California’s patient ambulance delay collaborative and the new Joint Commission accreditation standards. A segment of the workshop will be devoted to safety and security issues in the acute care setting, not only in high profile areas such as the Emergency Department, but in areas where volunteers are particularly vulnerable such as receptions and waiting areas.
