Vice President Legal Counsel

The California Hospital Association is the statewide leader representing and advocating the interests of hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers in California in the legislative and regulatory arenas.  We are seeking a legal expert for our downtown Sacramento office to oversee and coordinate legal representation on litigation critical to the hospital industry and to consult on the legal aspects and impact on hospitals of legislation and regulations.

General Summary

You will use your extensive knowledge of healthcare law to evaluate the effect of current and proposed state legislation and regulations on California hospitals, assist in the development of legislative and regulatory language, coordinate external counsel on litigation involving CHA, prepare legal memoranda and amicus briefs, and assist management and staff on legal issues. 

Required Qualifications

- JD degree and admission to California Bar
- Minimum of seven years of related experience working in and/or representing hospitals
- Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of health policy issues affecting the industry
- Strong collaboration skills and being effective at making the best use of resources and galvanizing people to achieve the overall mission
- Ability to lead projects and seamlessly coordinate work flow and teams
- Intellectual curiosity and an insatiable drive to stay current and relevant
- Political astuteness
- Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking
- Ability to manage dynamic and differing needs, interests, and viewpoints of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment
- High degree of initiative and problem solving skills
