The California Hospital Patient Safety Organization (“CHPSO”) was created by the California Hospital Association to lead California’s efforts towards eliminating preventable patient harm and improving the quality of health care delivery in hospitals. CHPSO is one of the largest Patient Safety Organizations in the nation and has access to data from over 280 hospitals. CHPSO’s initiatives include providing a collaborative and privileged environment where hospitals can share data and best practices, analyzing adverse outcomes and developing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence, developing education materials, and serving as a statewide resource for patient safety initiatives in California.

The Project Manager is primarily responsible for managing California Hospital Patient Safety Organization’s (CHPSO) many projects and activities designed to reduce preventable patient harm, which currently include: new member orientation, assisting hospitals in developing electronic reporting of incidents to the CHPSO database, developing recommended  practices for clinical alarm management,  reducing risks associated with health information technology, and coordinating Safe Table Forums with member organizations. The Project Manager will be working in collaboration with clinicians within CHPSO, Hospital Quality Institute (HQI) and hospitals to streamline processes and facilitate successful completion of multiple short-term and long-term initiatives.

To be successful, you will need to have the following education, skills and talents:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
• Project management and facilitation experience. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is desirable.
• Experience in patient safety, clinical performance and process improvement or outcomes measurement; certification in process improvement methodology desirable
• Demonstrates ability to use all Microsoft Office software and have in-depth knowledge of Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Possesses intermediate proficiency with database software
• Demonstrates ability to set priorities and handle multiple, sometimes competing tasks and projects.
• Organized, analytical  and efficient with strong writing and verbal communications skills
• Demonstrates problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions
• Must have strong customer service skills for both internal and external customers
• Demonstrates ability to work independently with little supervision; demonstrates initiative
• Knowledge of hospital and health care systems
• Ability to work within a team, and at times, lead team activities
