Mobile Program Outreach Extends to Homeless Shelter
California’s homeless population faces an especially difficult challenge when it comes to access to health care. Often, homeless families lack up-to-date medical records, including immunizations necessary for children to enroll in school. There is particular risk for diseases like tuberculosis. Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles recently dispatched its two mobile units, part of a program called COACH for Kids, to a shelter for homeless families in North Hollywood. It’s part of a regular community benefit outreach by the hospital as it extends its reach to neighborhoods and the underserved.
