Healthcare Data Analyst

Based in Sacramento, the California Hospital Association is the statewide leader representing the interests of nearly 400 hospitals and health systems in California. The California Hospital Engagement Network (“CalHEN”) is funded by a grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Partnership for Patients Initiative.  The Data Analyst is a grant-funded position.  This position is primarily responsible for serving as the liaison between CalHEN participating hospitals, project management and HRET with regard to data reporting, tracking, measurement and analysis and developing and maintaining databases to support these efforts.  Specific responsibilities include developing, managing and maintaining the CalHEN relational database(s); conducting analyses specific to quality measures, identifying trends and issues; creating data reports and analyses for identified processes, outcome measures, culture of safety surveys, and other reports; assisting the data reporting efforts of CalHEN hospitals; and submitting data on behalf of California hospitals to the national HEN team.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in statistics, social science or public health (graduate degree strongly preferred), and at least 5 years of experience providing analysis of complex data and presenting findings in reports for management’s use.  Experience with EHR quality measures, measure re-specification, and quality measures development and testing preferred.  Familiarity with state and federal health care initiatives and policies and federal agencies.  Advanced skill level in MS Office software programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel, including database/pivot table analysis tools necessary.  Must be experienced in providing direct technical assistance and customer support.  Superior analytical skills and proven ability to transform raw data into an accurate and useful format a must.  Must be able to communicate effectively with end-users in an informative and non-technical manner.  Also must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, timeline driven environment and complete analysis, identify issues and address problems in a professional manner.  Candidate must have the ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision and must work well and effectively as a team member.
