Director of Publishing and Marketing

The California Hospital Association is the statewide leader representing the interests of hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers in California.  CHA includes nearly 400 hospital members and provides members with state and federal representation and advocacy in the legislative and regulatory arenas.

We are currently looking for an experienced Director, Publishing and Marketing for a dynamic Publishing and Education Department, a revenue generating department of the association. This position is responsible for publishing and marketing legal manuals for hospital executives and an annual membership directory.

Responsibilities include managing the publishing process from start to finish — from concept to final product to sales. Duties include some writing and copy editing. Will develop marketing plan/tactics; write marketing copy for a variety of online, electronic and print marketing materials; conduct ad sales for the directory; direct designers; and buy print services. Also assists with creating materials to support and market education programs. Works closely with department staff of nine, and in-house issue specialists, contracted speakers and authors.  Manages one staff member; that staff member manages two other people.

The successful candidate will have excellent writing and proofreading skills and the ability to understand and write about complex health care issues; strong working knowledge of marketing principles; and the ability to manage publishing. We are looking for someone to help us transition to electronic publishing and to bring fresh and creative marketing strategies to our established brand. Knowledge of electronic publishing, hospitals and/or health care a plus. A bachelor’s degree is required; degree in Communications or Marketing preferred.
