Director, Policy Research and Analytics

The California Hospital Association is the statewide leader representing and advocating the interests of hospitals, health systems, and other health care providers in California in the legislative and regulatory arenas.  We are seeking an analytics expert to work strategically with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to conceptualize, research, aggregate, and synthesize complex data into meaningful and easily understandable information to proactively support and influence CHA’s advocacy work.

General Summary

You will use your extensive intellectual curiosity, data mining and analysis skills, and communication abilities to conduct research, analyze data for trends and impact on California hospitals, and design and produce clear and concise analytical reports addressing critical questions facing CHA and its members.  This includes partnering with internal team members to anticipate and understand information needs, identifying reliable data sources, and working proactively to analyze and communicate findings and trends in an easily understandable advocacy message.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in public policy, health care, social science, business, or related field
- Minimum of seven years of related experience mining and analyzing health care data in a consulting, health plan, hospital, or regulatory environment
- Strong knowledge of a broad range of health policy issues affecting the industry
- Ability to identify, design, and conduct a variety of analytical activities, aggregating and assimilating complex data to develop and support CHA’s advocacy efforts
- Ability to act as a data scientist, making discoveries, spotting trends, and connecting data sets in order to tell a compelling story
- Intellectual curiosity and an insatiable drive to stay current and relevant
- Strong analytical, project/time management, follow through, and problem solving skills
- Ability to effectively work independently, using initiative and excellent judgment
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with a variety of groups and individuals, including government agencies, members, professional organizations, and consultants
- Exceptional communication skills, including public speaking
- Ability to manage dynamic and differing needs, interests, and viewpoints of multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, quickly evolving environment
- Customer-focused personality
- Excellent computer skills and expert-level abilities in MS Office applications and database programs
