General Information


Based in Sacramento, the California Hospital Association is the statewide leader representing the interests of hospitals and health systems in California. CHA includes nearly 450 hospital and health system members.  CHA provides members with state and federal representation and advocacy in the legislative and regulatory arenas through an agenda designed to improve access to quality, cost-effective health care services.

CHA is seeking a full-time, seasoned Controller to oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant administration, and reporting activities. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and supervise a staff of 9.


This position requires a CPA license.  Other requirements include:


Minimum of ten years of hands-on accounting experience, with at least five years at the controller level

Minimum of five years’ experience leading an accounting team

Proven track record of leading and motivating a team

Experience in a multi-company environment

Solid understanding of GAAP

Strong knowledge and experience with all aspects of month-end closings, general ledger reconciliation and financial statement preparation

Non-profit and grant accounting experience preferred

Treasury experience strongly preferred

Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and computerized GL system;  Great Plains experience strongly preferred

Excellent organization skills

Strong customer service orientation

Ability to organize, plan, and be effective at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven, and constantly changing environment

Strong attention to detail and analytical skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently, exercise initiative and excellent judgment

Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and organizations

Ability and willingness to collaborate and be a team member in the CHA-Regional Associations model
