CHA Shares Report on Enrollment

CHA provided the Insurance Reform Workgroup with a copy of a report prepared by The California Endowment and the Urban Institute that examines the capabilities of the state’s current enrollment systems and processes. The study finds that the current labor intensive and paper-based systems for enrollment into the Healthy Families and Medi-Cal programs could become overwhelmed when the influx of millions of newly insured individuals can become covered under the Affordable Care Act. The report says that policymakers must make efforts to streamline enrollment in public plans, address issues related to provider participation in Medi-Cal, and consider replacing current enrollment systems with computerized or web-based systems.
