California Awarded $10 Million in Health Profession Grants
Grants target nursing, geriatric centers and Centers for Excellence

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has announced $159.1 million in grants for health care workforce training programs nationwide. Of that amount, California has been awarded $10 million in grants for nursing, geriatric centers and Centers of Excellence.

These grants will build on the multimillion dollar investments made under the Affordable Care Act and the Recovery and Reinvestment Act to strengthen and increase the primary-care workforce.

The grants will target three types of programs: nursing workforce development, interdisciplinary geriatric education and training, and Centers of Excellence for underrepresented minority students.
