The findings from a recent CareFusion smart pump data analysis will be presented related to compliance and patient safety best practice. Recommendations will be discussed. Resources and reference materials will be provided

Program Objectives:

  • Identify best practice examples to improve compliance
  • Create an action plan to align current and best practices to reduce the risk of adverse drug events using smart pump technology
  • Illustrate potential safety gaps and traps in current drug library design
  • Establish hard limits for doses and custom concentrations
  • Discuss best practice guidelines for High-Risk IV Meds

Faculty

Karen Braswell, MSN, RN, CPN, CNS (CareFusion) – Clinical Infusion Data Consultant with CareFusion for over 5 years responsible for Continuous Quality Improvement education for customer hospitals. Conducts presentations on best practices for executives, nursing, pharmacy and quality/risk on infusion data.

Claire Knight, PharmD (CareFusion) – Senior Pharmacy Consultant with CareFusion for over 6 years. As an expert in pharmacy subject matter, Ms. Knight handles pharmacy resources for internal and external customers including interactions with numerous customers post-implementation via Optimization Services and has completed various presentations, projects, and discussions for GCS disciplines.
