Surgical Site Infection Reporting Web Seminar
Understanding and implementing California's SSI reporting requirements

Beginning June 1, 2011, all general acute care hospitals are required to report surgical site infection (SSI) data on 29 separate surgical procedures. The requirement stems from SB 1058 which mandates the reporting of several different healthcare-associated infections, including SSIs.

SSI data must be reported to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Challenges to meet the reporting requirements are considerable—it is estimated that California hospitals will be reporting upwards of 900,000 surgeries annually.
