Lloyd Bookman is a founding partner at Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, PC. Mr. Bookman is based in the Los Angeles law office and has specialized in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and compliance since 1979. He also represents health care providers in fraud and abuse matters involving false claims and anti-kickback issues, in self-referral matters — serving as counsel in civil and administrative litigation and investigations — and as special counsel in criminal matters.

Cheryl Mann, president and founder of Goals Insight, is a coach, facilitator and national speaker, as well as author of several audio CD and workbook programs. She received her professional coaching training and certification (CPCC - Certified Professional Co-Active Coach) from the Coaches Training Institute. In addition, Ms. Mann has advanced training in Organizational and Relationship Systems Coaching, and is an Authorized Diagnostic Facilitator for the Team Diagnostic Assessment. She is also certified by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC).

Matt Absher is director of Reimbursement Programs at the California Hospital Association. At CHA, Mr. Absher represents members’ interests related to reimbursement, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, commercial payers, and other government entities. Prior to joining CHA, he worked for five years for Triage Consulting Group, a hospital revenue recovery firm located in San Francisco.

Deborah Kania, RN, is director of Continuing Care Services at Sutter Medical Center. Ms. Kania is responsible for overall operational management of Sutter Oaks Nursing Center, a 100-bed distinct part skilled nursing facility and Sutter Senior Care PACE program, an all-inclusive care program at three locations servicing 250 covered lives with primary care, home health, hospice and acute care and skilled nursing care services. 

Albert Hwang, MD, is medical director for Mercy General Hospital Rehabilitation Services in Sacramento. In addition, Dr. Hwang also serves as the division head of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Mercy Medical Group and as adjunct clinical faculty at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Hwang is an ardent advocate for rehabilitation services and serves on CHA’s Center for Medical Rehabilitation Services board.  

Donna Courtwright, RN, CRRN, is a consultant for GPS Healthcare Consultants. Prior to joining GPS, Ms. Courtwright worked for 15 years for RehabCare Group as both a program director and an operations consultant. In these positions, she was highly successful in creating strong teams, increased census and improved bottom line. Ms. Courtwright has guided organizations through CARF surveys and CMS denials management process for acute rehabilitation claims. She also has assisted with the overturning of denied claims by a ZPIC.

Continuing Education

Full attendance at the educational session is a prerequisite for receiving professional continuing education. Attendees must sign in at the seminar and, when required, include their state bar or professional license number. CE certificates will be e-mailed.

Health Care Executives — CHA is authorized to award 4.25 hours of preapproved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this program toward advancement, recertification or reappointment in the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Nursing — Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider # CEP 11924, for 5.1 Contact Hours. (Certificates must be retained by licensee for a period of 4 years.)

Nursing Home Administrator — CHA is authorized by the State of California, Department of Public Health to award 5 contact hours of general credit. Provider Number 1142.
