Health Policy Legislative Day
advocating for patients and your hospitals

March 27 & 28, 2012
Sacramento, California

Health Policy Legislative Day is a critical component of our legislative advocacy. Hospital CEOs and government relations executives are urged to come to Sacramento and let lawmakers know how their decisions will impact hospitals in their community. We must maintain a strong presence and protect patient access to hospital services.

Please join us for this important program.

Given California’s projected $9.2 billion budget deficit for the coming fiscal year and the debate over spending reductions, it is important that we meet personally with elected officials and collectively advocate on behalf of California hospitals. Health Policy Legislative Day is an opportunity to make an impact.

CHA is pleased to announce that Diana S. Dooley, Secretary, California Health and Human Services Agency, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for the education program. In her role as Secretary, Ms. Dooley oversees the California Department of Public Health and the Medi-Cal program, and also chairs the California Health Benefit Exchange (CHBE) — all vital programs to California’s patients and health care system.

In addition, a presentation will be made on CHA’s opposition campaign to defeat two ballot initiatives of the Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West — the so-called “Charity Care Act” and “Fair Healthcare Pricing Act” initiatives.

Attendees will meet with their legislative representatives during the afternoon to collectively advocate on key issues of critical importance to hospitals.

Once attendees register for the program, CHA’s advocacy staff will schedule appointments with members of the Legislature on their behalf. Appointments will be made with the senator and assemblymember representing the district where the hospital is located. Additional appointments may be made with legislators from surrounding districts and other key legislators. Hospital executives can request specific appointments when they register and every effort will be made to accommodate the request. To facilitate the scheduling of appointments, members are strongly encouraged to register by March 9.

Most meetings will be group meetings with hospital executives from the area and scheduling will be coordinated with input from the Regional Associations. A hospital “Team Leader” is selected to direct each meeting and team leaders will be notified in advance.

The schedule of appointments will be e-mailed to all registrants one week prior to the program.

This program is for executives of CHA-member hospitals only and the deadline to register is March 9. To encourage members to register by the deadline, registration fees are discounted.
