Overview

It is critical that hospital executives meet personally with members of Congress to protect access to hospital services. Lawmakers need to understand how their decisions on health legislation directly impacts the people that live in their communities—their family, friends and neighbors.

Hospital executives are urged to participate in CHA’s federal advocacy program, California Congressional Action Program (CCAP), May 6 – 9 in Washington, D.C.  The purpose of CCAP is to collectively advocate on behalf of California hospitals by meeting with lawmakers and regulatory officials.

“We need a strong presence of California leaders at this event,” stated C. Duane Dauner, CHA’s president/CEO.  “I encourage hospital executives to join us in Washington, D.C. and to meet personally with members of Congress. These relationships are vital to our efforts to protect access to hospital services.”

CHA is pleased to announce that Patrick Conway, MD, MSc, Chief Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Director of the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality, is the keynote speaker for the California dinner Tuesday evening, May 8.

Dr. Conway is the senior administrative official responsible for all quality measures for CMS payment and quality reporting programs, hospital value-based purchasing and readmissions penalty program, as well as clinical standards and survey and certification of Medicare and Medi-Cal providers nationwide. Dr. Conway will discuss CMS’s vision for these programs going forward and their implications for hospitals. The dinner is exclusively for CHA members.

American Hospital Association’s Annual Membership Meeting:
This program is being held in conjunction with the American Hospital Association’s Annual Membership Meeting and is designed to complement and strengthen California’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. More than 2,000 hospital executives from throughout the country are expected to attend the AHA meeting.
