Worker coverage costs double in decade: study

Family premiums for employer-based health insurance rose by about 5% this year, to $13,375 annually, with workers paying an average share of $3,515 and employers paying $9,860, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation and the American Hospital Association’s Health Research & Educational Trust. Since a decade ago, premiums have risen 131%. By comparison, worker wages rose 38% and inflation is up 28% since 1999. Workers’ share of healthcare contributions rose 128% over the decade, according to the survey.
