What Healthcare Reform Doesn’t Cover: Long-Term Care for the Elderly

Here’s a bit of information you don’t run across every day: The nation’s 10 leading long-term-care insurers paid 53 percent more in claim benefits in 2010 than they did in 2007. Since the number of people they and other LTC insurers covered last year hasn’t increased significantly in the last three years, that means a lot more people are getting old and sick enough to need long-term care. And that has implications that the Affordable Care Act barely addresses.
