In an attempt to address the nation’s health-care workforce shortage, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Wednesday that the government will invest $250 million in programs to increase the number of doctors, nurses and other care providers.

The money is the first allotment from the $500 million Prevention and Public Health fund created by the health reform overhaul signed in March, a statement said.
