Union Wants More Teeth In Ratios

The California Nurses Association is sponsoring a bill to create a system for enforcement of nurse staffng ratios similar to the ones and corrective action plans hospitals must pay and submit when their patients are exposed to life-threatening medical errors. Senate Bill 554 would empower the California Department of Public Health to levy administrative penalties of up to $10,000 for each violation of nurse staffng ratios in acute care hospitals after four such violations within a six-month period.
