UCSD plans new cancer treatment center
San Diego Union-Tribune

UC San Diego announced Monday that it has signed an agreement with a private company to build a $205 million proton therapy center that will be used for cancer treatment and scientific research.

The center to be built with Proton Health Partners of San Diego would join a handful of others nationwide that offer a cancer treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2001 as a more precise method of attacking cancer cells with high doses of radiation while limiting damage to surrounding tissue.
